Woke up to a beautiful new swell at Popoyo this morning. The winds had been hard offshore for days. This morning it was about 5-10 knots offshore. We hit Popoyo first thing with our guests Albert and Dana from SC. There were a lot of solid nuggets coming through Popoyo and the outer reef had some bombs. The tide came in quickly and the waves started to get a little soft for our tastes.

We ate a few banana pancakes and hopped over to Santana, where it was dead glass. Several nice peaky barrels were coming through. Around 11 am, the wind came onshore about 0-5 knots and everyone got out. It was just a few of us out then taking our pick.

Playa Santana Nicaragua served up some more typical off-season surf today. The surf has been perfect for giving surf classes to our guest Gaston from Argentina. He’s already getting down the line only after a few days.

The wind is typically strong in February and March, but the past few days have been even more windy than usual. It can be a little chilly without a 1 or 2mm top. At least it’s offshore and still uncrowded.

Playa Santana was the place to be today. I’ll give it 3 Chile Peppers on  a scale of 1 to 5. Fun tubes, but the offshore winds were a little strong. With the waves this small and windy, this beach typically offers up the best conditions. Water is a tad chilly, it felt nice with a thin top on.

We’re fully booked for the end of the month and early April. If you’re thinking about visiting Popoyo, or just looking for a cheap surf trip, drop us a line.

It’s been like groundhog day rolling up to the beach every day and seeing a few locals enjoying offshore, wedgey peaks. Late season has been real fun with plenty of SW swell hanging around.

In a couple days, Nicaragua is supposed to see a small pulse of the huge NW swell that hit Hawaii. We saw some  NW swell show here a few winters ago, but we’ll believe this one when we see it. Will Popoyo show the NW swell? What do you think?

Nicaragua beachbreak Playa Santana continues to see fun late-season waves at today. When the swell is a little smaller, the area reefs continue to work, but the beachbreaks provide the most action.

Waves running a little smaller today, with the rights coming off third peak providing the best tubes. We were the first ones out, with a few more locals and extranjeros paddling out as the mid-day high tide filled in. We want to say que te vaya bien to Brendan and Melanie, and thank you for the beautiful card and gift from Australia!

Went down to the beach this morning with our guests Brendan and Melanie from Sydney Australia, and Brian from Florida. Super fun surf and very uncrowded conditions. The water was very clear and refreshing. Waves were very peaky and hollow with everyone getting great tube rides. We’d like to thank all our past, present, and future guests for your support. Also much thanks to Brendan for taking over camera duty while I caught some waves. Happy Thanksgiving!
